Set up an outbound shipping storefront

An outbound storefront is a branded portal where customers purchase a label to ship a package to a destination you allow — ship-to-event, ship-to-studio, or ship-to-customer.
When to use outbound
- Customers need to send something to your event, warehouse, or partner
- You want them to pay for postage at checkout
- You want preset package sizes so rates stay predictable
For returns only, use return label checkout. For both directions, use round-trip.
Requirements
- Plan that includes portals
- Branding and subdomain configured
- At least one preset package (recommended)
- Automation / portal package limits that allow the lanes you support
- Clear destination rules (fixed destination vs customer-entered ship-to)
Setup steps
- Open Portals in Nitromule.
- Create or select an outbound storefront.
- Set logo, colors, and public subdomain.
- Add portal packages customers can choose.
- Configure Automation rules or portal package limits: carriers, services, markups, blocked regions.
- Set whether ship-to is fixed (your venue) or entered by the customer.
- Preview the portal as a guest in a private window.
- Publish and copy the public URL into emails / QR codes / your site.
Customer experience
- Customer opens your portal link.
- Chooses a package preset (or enters dims if you allow).
- Enters addresses as the flow requires.
- Compares rates and pays.
- Downloads / prints the label PDF.
Operational tips
- Place a cheap test purchase before launch day
- Publish packing instructions (what fits in each preset)
- Monitor failed checkouts (address validation, payment)
- Align venue receiving hours with when labels are purchased
Troubleshooting
- No rates → presets missing weight/dims; rules too restrictive; rates not showing
- Wrong branding → branding and subdomain
- Paid but no PDF → find portal order id; retry download; contact support with that id
