Rate shopping in Nitromule is the Get rates action on Get Label (and on order label flows). You fill Shipping and Packages, get a table of carrier services, then continue to checkout.
Before Get rates works
You need:
- A Ship From address (set a default under Address book → Addresses → Set default → Ship From)
- A complete Ship To (street, city, state, ZIP; unit/apartment when the building has one)
- Package weight and dimensions
- Optional extras later under Options (signature, insurance, pickup)
Incomplete addresses or missing dims are the usual reason for an empty table — see Rates not showing.
Steps (Get Label)
- Open Get Label.
- On Shipping, confirm Ship From and enter Ship To.
- On Packages, enter weight and L×W×H (add more packages if you are shipping multiple boxes).
- Select Get rates.
- Review each row: carrier, service, price, and transit when shown.
- Select Select service on the rate you want.
- Continue through Options (signature, coverage, Dropoff or Pickup) as needed.
- Select Continue, then Place Order to pay and create the label.
From an imported order
- Open Orders → Incomplete.
- Select the order(s).
- Select Create Label / Create Labels.
- Confirm addresses and packages, then Get rates and finish with Place Order as above.
Buying postage from the order (not a separate ad-hoc Get Label) is what allows store tracking sync — One-off vs order labels.
Reading the rate table
- Platform Nitromule rates charge Account → Billing.
- Connected carrier accounts (BYOA) bill under your carrier contract when that rate source is used — Your own accounts.
- PO Boxes often return USPS only.
- Adding signature or insurance can change which services remain.
Rates are quotes until you Place Order. Address or package edits require Get rates again.
